The Christmas Tag 2018

Over the last few days we’ve mainly been found hibernating on the sofa watching Christmas movies, so I thought it would be the perfect time to complete this years Christmas Tag! Little Violet is currently really poorly with tonsillitis and an allergic reaction to penicillin so we’ve been staying in the warm, watching Christmas movies and snuggling by the Christmas Tree. Like usual, I’m feeling totally unorganised about Christmas, probably even more so this year than ever (although I have been a bit busy with two babies I suppose!) – our living room is also less than “festive insta-perfect” as we started renovations last week and had the walls freshly plastered, but then had to cancel further works as Violet was too poorly and it would be too disruptive to her. So now we have gorgeous brown walls for Christmas and a room and decorations that have been just thrown together. Maybe a good thing as I’m sure if I had the picture perfect Christmas Tree, Violet would pull it down in two seconds anyway!

Even though Violet’s been really ill having to stay in and rest has been a great excuse to kick back and start our festive break early! So, this year I’ve been tagged by Lauren to answer these Christmas questions….. (if you fancy a read of 2017’s it’s here!)

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS MOVIE?

I love a Christmas Movie and have a few favourites – my ultimate favourites is Elf! I watch it every year. Sadly, Violet didn’t seem to interested this year but hopefully in a year or two she’ll enjoy watching it with me. Instead she prefers animations, so we’ve been watching The Snowman (and the snowdog!) which I loved as a child. It felt really special to have a little person to watch old classics with.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY SPEND YOUR HOLIDAY?

At home – I love being in the comfort of our own home. We have a really low-key Christmas, just us with lots of good food, The Queens speech and watching the girls opening their presents.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM PLACE TO VISIT FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON?

Before we had children, we actually spent Christmas Day on a Nile Cruise and I loved being away somewhere warm for it. However, with children I think being at home is just perfect, seeing their little faces light up… Where else would you need to be?

DO YOU OPEN YOUR PRESENTS ON CHRISTMAS EVE OR CHRISTMAS MORNING?

I think with kids, the morning is the only option! Violet’s still a bit young to understand so we could get away with any time this year – but I’m sure come next year she’ll be waking us at the crack of dawn!

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS MEMORY?

Probably our Nile Cruise as that was my most unique Christmas to date! On Christmas day we had dinner with locals at their house, which was quite an experience!

BE HONEST: DO YOU LIKE GIVING GIFTS OR RECEIVING GIFTS BETTER?

Definitely giving. We aren’t actually exchanging any gifts for ourselves this year, it’s all about the babies! I can’t wait to see them opening their presents and playing with their new toys.

FAVOURITE FESTIVE FOOD?

Oh god, I couldn’t pick one – I’m IN IT FOR THE FOOD. It wouldn’t be Christmas without Mince Pies, Brandy Butter, Christmas pudding, Quality Street, Yule Log, roast potatoes, parnsips…. the list goes on. It’s our Christmas tradition to do our food shop at M&S, I can’t wait to eat all the food!

FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SCENTS?

I love Festive scents – warm and spicy cranberry to cool pine. Of course, nothing beats the smell of a real Christmas tree.

DO YOU HAVE ANY CHRISTMAS EVE TRADITIONS?

We don’t yet – We’ll put a mince pie out for Father Christmas but I think Violet and Pearl are both too little to really understand it. We’ll probably build on our Christmas eve traditions as they grow up – next year I’m thinking maybe Christmas bedding and Christmas pjs, but we shall see!

WHAT TOPS YOUR TREE?

A Gold Star! Violet is obsessed with stars and points to it, singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ in her own special way

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A WHITE CHRISTMAS?

Not sure, I don’t think so! Is this the year?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG?

When ‘Stop the Cavalry’ comes on it reminds me of my childhood and brings back the most memories of Christmas, but I love all Christmas music really – I’ve been listening to my Christmas playlist non-stop since the beginning of December.

IS YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE REAL OR FAKE?

It’s fake and it’s pre-lit. With little ones I think an artificial one is just so much easier, it’s all ready to go when you want it and you can take it down easily too. It also doesn’t drop needles, with the amount Violet pulls at the tree there would be no needles left on a real one by now!

ARE YOU A PROFESSIONAL PRESENT WRAPPER OR DO YOU FAIL MISERABLY?

If I put my mind to it, I think I can wrap quite nicely, I even went on a wrapping course a few years ago… but I think this year as most of the presents are just for the little ones I’ll save those ‘skills’ for another day and just get it done!

WHAT MAKES THE HOLIDAYS SPECIAL FOR YOU?

Time with family (and all the food ?)

As we are so close to Christmas I won’t tag any bloggers, but feel free to join in if you haven’t done this tag yet!

  • I didn’t know there were such things as wrapping classes! I always want to wrap our presents so nicely and with fancy bows and such, but our cat just tears everything apart before the big day so I don’t bother too much haha.
