Review: Shine Hair and Beauty Salon, Brighton

With life being a tad on the stressful side at the moment, I was pleased to be able to spend some time last week pampering myself at the gorgeous Shine Hair and Beauty Salon in Brighton. My light brown to blonde ombré had turned an odd shade of ginger and was desperate for some TLC…plus I’ve been burning the candle at both ends so some time out in the salon to relax and enjoy being looked after was well deserved. Turns out, it was just what the Dr. had ordered as this hidden gem is utterly gorgeous and the perfect little retreat when you need some R & R.
I was greeted by the friendly staff on the reception desk and had my initial colour consultation. I really liked how thorough my stylist, Anne was. I felt like she really listened to what I wanted which immediately put me at ease. I always find going to a new salon a daunting prospect as I never know what to expect, but at this point I felt like I was in safe hands. Whilst she scurried away to mix my colours, I was treated to a lovely aromatherapy head and shoulder massage and a coffee and started to relax and unwind.
Here is a few pictures of my colour transformation, starting from the before look…You can’t really see it in that picture, but when the light shone on my hair it looked so faded and brassy. Hope you enjoy a lovely picture of me with plastic over my head… I do enjoy embarrassing myself…!
Throughout my treatment all of the staff were so friendly and chatted away with me, I was treated to drinks, magazines and a hand massage whilst the colour developed… pampered from start to finish. After my colour I also had a trim and had my hair styled into big bouncy waves as I was meeting a friend for dinner.
So, here is the finished look!
I’m so pleased with it, the cut is lovely as Anne added a lot more layers and texture to my hair, making waves and curls sit really nicely. She also managed to correct my orange brassiness with a really natural brunette that fades well into my blonde ombré.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Shine and will be returning soon. The salon itself it’s gorgeous, with neutral decor and relaxing music, it’s a zone of calm from the moment you walk in, unlike some salons that feel like a conveyer belt and just trying to get you through the process. This I really liked as I prefer the whole pampering experience than for it to just be a ‘process’. The lovely people who work there are friendly, with an amazing attention to detail – they make it a really personal experience. All the products used at Shine are from the Aveda range, they use them as they are natural and come out top of the charts for eco-friendliness too. They left my hair so soft, shiny and smelling gorgeous, plus my colour was rich and glossy and all natural too so less damaging to the hair.
Shine also have a spa and offering massages, facials and beauty treatments, all using the finest natural products by Aveda. The Aveda spa believes in restoring balance to life using the five senses holistically (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch), they use a mix of pure aromas, plant-based products and unique sensory experiences – I think I might have to treat myself to a treatment or two soon too!
Lastly, here are a few snaps of the gorgeous salon…
A big thank you to Shine for having me – I will be seeing you all again very soon!
