Not everyone wants hearts and flowers this Valentines Day… I know I certainly don’t. I’ve always said Valentines day is a bit of a cheese-fest and a ploy for retailers to cash in, however saying that – I’m not totally averse to it. My softer side still wants to spend a nice evening with someone special and mark the occasion in my own way – just no tacky presents or cliché situations involved.
I was interested to read in a recent survey by Figleaves, that the majority of people (38%) would rather spend a night in, than go out, so planning a night in seems the way forward. Here are a few nice ideas for a quiet night together, skipping the over-crowded restaurants with heart-shaped pizzas and the hoards of awkward couples….
1. Throw an indoor picnic – think open fire, chunky cushions and a picnic blanket on the floor. Why sit at the tablet when you can have a romantic picnic at home by the fireside? Best not to spend hours in the kitchen but cook something simple and quick so you can spend quality time together over a glass of wine.
2. The spa experience – A relaxing bath with scented candles, bath bubbles and a glass of champagne is a perfect way to unwind together, followed by a sensual massage. I recommend the Flora Paradiso massage oil from Bodhi, which is based on ancient massage rituals from the Balinese of Indonesia, an aromatherapeutic blend of essential oils perfect for de-stressing and getting in the mood.
3. Cocktail making – inject some fun and laughter into Valentines day by creating cocktails together, no pink, red or hearts allowed! Pinterest is perfect for finding recipes and inspiration. Just make sure you don’t have work the following morning….
Lastly, when it comes to gifts, the majority of men surveyed said their ideal gift would be for their lady to buy sexy lingerie and dress up for them, which is handy as Figleaves.com and Agent Provocateur have some beautiful springtime collections at the moment, which I have been currently lusting over for some time. So get shopping girls!
Have a great Valentines Day, whatever you get up to 😉
