LIFE: A weekend by the sea

When life gets tough, sometimes you just need a weekend away from everything. After a particularly stressful week at work, we jumped in the car to our good friends house in Hayling Island, Hampshire. It’s so peaceful there, it feels like a real holiday. I couldn’t wait to get away from the bustling city life we lead, being a country girl at heart I love some peace and quiet. Sometimes I just need to take time out and recharge my batteries.
We spent our first evening having an amazing BBQ with our friends, so much food – I was stuffed to the brim. We had chats by the fire and a late night hot tub to watch the shooting stars overhead, it was just what we all needed.
On second day we headed into nearby Portsmouth to do a bit of sightseeing. We headed over to Gunwarf keys, where we did a little shopping (although it was packed so we couldn’t really enjoy mooching around the shops). So, we decided to head up the Spinnaker Tower. I’ve been saying I would do it since it was built but have never had the chance, the weather was beautiful so it was the perfect opportunity to go up.
First floor viewing deck 100m / Glass floor – eek! / The gorgeous view
We really enjoyed the views from the Spinnaker Tower, however it was so busy! Definitely would go next time during the week as we could barely move in there. The views are amazing, you can see all the way over to the Isle of Wight and the boats looked like toy ships like children play with in the bath. The ocean was such a gorgeous deep turquoise, I almost felt like I been swept away to somewhere I lot more exotic!
Cream Tea at the Historic Dockyard
Our next mission was to The Mary Rose Museum, with a cream tea at the Georgian Tearooms en route, of course! The Mary Rose is a ship that sank during Tudor times, built for King Henry VIII it’s been at the bottom of the sea for over 500 years, only recovered in 1982. It’s a pretty amazing museum, you can’t believe the things they found still in perfect condition after all this time.
The ship in it’s ‘hotbox’ – the timber will take over 20 years to completely dry out
HMS Warrior / The Spinnaker Tower
We’ve had such a lovely weekend away. Portsmouth is only an hour or so down the road but it’s felt like a mini-holiday to to do something different and have a change of scenery. It was just what the Dr ordered and now I’m ready to come home and start again, with a fresh mind and a relaxed attitude.

What did you get up to this weekend?
