As the weather in Turkey was so hot, loose clothes are a must. So, with that in mind when I saw this gorgeous floaty Cawthorne Temple Tiles Maxi-Dress from Fat Face (£60.00) I knew it would be just perfect – the pattern reminds me of the intricate patterns found within a Mosque or maybe the flooring of an ornate Hammam. This dress has got to be one of my most comfortable travel outfits, the fabric is so lightweight and airy, keeping me cool in the hot weather, plus it is such a flattering shape too. Is it just me or do you sometimes maxi-dresses can be quite unflattering? Luckily, this dress just nipped me in at the right place around my waist and showed a little hint of leg too giving a really lovely shape.
Of course every summer outfit needs a good sunhat, mine is from New Look, I bought it last year and it comes on every holiday with me as my trusty travel companion. My flipflops are from Accessorize as I just love the beading detail, again they are a few years old too. Lastly, my brown leather satchel bag is from my favourite bag store Ollie & Nic (who have sadly now closed down in Brighton but you can still order online!) My satchel is perfect size for a travel handbag – I recommend this style of bag for travelling as it is quite secure with the two clips keeping it tightly shut. I wear it across my body and turned inwards in busy markets to keep my money and phone nice and secure.
For my sunglasses I chose these gorgeous wayfarer sunglasses by Ralph Lauren (£69.00), they are the first pair of expensive, designer sunglasses I’ve ever owned, and I’m so proud to own them! Usually I don’t spent too much on sunglasses as I’m a bit clumsy and have a habit of breaking things, however these come with a hard protective case so I’m determined to look after them this time. I got these beauties from the Sunglasses Shop, where I was surprised to see how low the prices for designer sunglasses are – I’ve always thought they were well out of my price bracket! It took me ages to chose them from their selection of Ralph sunglasses but I eventually settled on a this pair as I just loved the shape and animal print detail along the arms. Of course there are sensible reasons for choosing a ‘decent’ pair of sunglasses too – the lenses are polarised to reduce glare and give me 100% protection from harmful UV rays too. Any excuse….!
The great thing about this outfit, is that it’s perfect for both a casual daytime outfit and wearing in the evening too. After a long day of shopping in the bazaars and exploring we were so tired and hungry we decided to just head out for an early dinner, I grabbed a grey shimmery pashmina bought from the local bazaar, slicked on a little bronzer and lip gloss and had the perfect evening outfit in a matter of minutes, it’s super versatile.
Before I left for Turkey I was concerned about wearing something that would cover me up as I wasn’t sure about the etiquette of wearing revealing clothing, given that it’s a predominantly Muslim country. As it turned out, where we stayed was a very relaxed and quaint Turkish village where any type of clothing was acceptable, but when you travel, clothing etiquette is always an important thing to bear in mind.
