BEAUTY: Unboxing the Homedics NEWA Skin Rejuvenation System

As I’m fast approaching 30 (1 month to go!) now is the time I’m starting to think about upping the ante when it comes to skincare. I’m lucky enough to say I don’t really have many wrinkles yet,  but I’ve noticed in the last 6 months fine lines are starting to appear and it’s as if overnight my skin is just starting to look older. Without sounding like a total misery, it’s only going to get worse as I get older – boo. So, when Homedics got in touch to ask me to review the NEWA Skin Rejuvenation System it couldn’t have come at a better time and I couldn’t wait to give it a go.

The NEWA is a revolutionary skincare system which is clinically proven to firm, tighten and lift the skin. This is done by reactivating your skins natural ability to create collagen, plumping the skin, lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The NEWA system uses 3DEEP® technology, which in basic terms delivers energy 3 layers deep into the skin, this is a process that no chemicals, creams, lotions or potions can manage, so it is truly unique and a natural way of firming your skin. Usually this type of treatment is done at a salon or spa, but this is one of the very first devices for home usage.

Whats inside the box?

The NEWA system comes with full instructions including a handy DVD to demonstrate the areas to work on and the technique required.

The NEWA itself – lightweight and fits into the palm of your hand

The Electrodes

NEWA Activation Gel – this helps the NEWA connect to the skin, delivering heat and energy into the layers of the skin, it’s also silky smooth and has a sweet Aloe Vera scent.

The NEWA also comes with a plug adaptor and carry case.

How do you use the NEWA?

Using the NEWA is super easy. Basically, you divide your face up into six different treatment areas:
  • Under the eyes – to reduce crows feet
  • Cheek area for ‘marionette’ laughter lines
  • Under the chin – to reduce fine lines and wrinkles

The NEWA then has two heat settings – within the instructions, they recommend you start on the highest heat (2) and turn down the device if necessary. You apply two thin strips of Activator Gel to the electrodes and turn the device on. The NEWA heats immediately so you can begin to start massaging the treatment area in small circular motions. This is not painful at all, it can heat up quite a lot, but providing you keep moving it doesn’t feel too hot. The treatment with the NEWA is comfortable, safe, pain-free and as relaxing as a warm facial massage.

The NEWA has an inbuilt timer, buzzing the device with a soft vibration to signal that it’s time to move onto the next treatment area. There really isn’t anything they haven’t thought of when they designed this – it’s so easy to use. I’ve been using mine most evenings whilst watching TV as it’s so relaxing, you can just zone out and massage away, once you have mastered the technique it really does take very little concentration.

 My before pictures

BEFORE – Picture is completely unedited to show fine lines although I do have make-up on which lessens the appearance slightly.

As I’m just about to turn 30 and I’ve noticed a big change in my skin over the last 6 months, to me this is the time I really need to think about taking care of my skin as a preventative as well as to soften the fine lines already developing.

Just a little note – If you have younger skin I’ve been assured the NEWA is still safe to use and works as a preventative by boosting the collagen in the skin.

How long will it take to see results?

Initially I’m doing a 4 week trial of the NEWA – this means using the device 5 days a week, each day for a total of 24 minutes (4 minutes per treatment area). This sounds like a lot of time, but it’s so easy to use I can just sit and watch TV or catch up on blog reading whilst I massage away – I’m sure I could probably even do it whilst cooking the dinner, but I’ll let you know about that one(!). NEWA’s technology is proven to provide immediate and long-lasting results, so I’m eager to see if this will work for me.

I’ll be posting again in a months time to reveal my progress, so check back in a few weeks to see the results!

The NEWA can be bought exclusively from Boots online and in some bigger stores, retailing at a price of £199.00.
