5 Top LGBT Friendly Holiday Picks

As I’m sure you’re aware, I love to travel! Although we took Violet away to France last summer, this year will be our first proper family holiday and of course, we want to go somewhere that as a same-sex family, we’ll feel comfortable and be recognised as a family.

Recently I’ve been looking into some destinations that are friendly and accepting of the LGBT community so I thought I’d share with you our top picks for so far…

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is renowned for being the safest and most friendly city in Africa for same-sex couples and families. Not only does Cape Town boast beautiful views (which of course is important for those perfect Instagram shots!) but it’s also packed with activities that the whole family can enjoy, such as the Two Oceans Aquarium, an alpaca farm where you can meet and feed the alpacas and even a tree top playground! (It’s called “Acrobranch Constantia” and it looks amazing!)

Cyprus

I’ve always wanted to explore the island of Cyprus – another on the list of being extremely LGBT friendly. The perfect way to do this would be to book a gorgeous secluded villa and hire a car, we could take the island at our own pace, enjoying the beautiful beaches and local dishes along the way. I’m sure Violet would love to swim in her own private pool too, after how well she’s been doing at Waterbabies!

Reykjavik, Iceland

Living in Brighton means that we have the UK’s largest Pride festival right on our doorstep, but I’ve always wanted to attend a Pride event in another country and Reykjavik’s Pride looks like so much fun and the fact that their population is around 500,000 people and 200,000 attend – thats a huge percentage of the population attending along with other LGBT people from around the globe, just goes to show how inclusive Iceland is of the LGBT community.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Denmark is not only a country straight out of a fairy tale, but it was actually the first country in the world to recognise partnerships for same-sex couples. Copenhagen boasts itself as friendly city where everyone is welcome and welcome to be themselves. Feeling safe travelling as a same-sex family is important to us, especially with such a young child with us. As far as activities go, Copenhagen is packed full of family fun activities such as Museums (including a children’s museum!) and the world’s oldest amusement park, Bakken!

The Berkshires, Massachusetts

Situated in a mountain region in western Massachusetts in the states, The Berkshires is another Insta worthy location where the locals are friendly and inviting, no matter who you are! If you and your family enjoy the outdoors, then this is the holiday destination for you. With horse riding, kayak trips, a butterfly conservatory and infamous hiking trails, you’re spoilt for choice on how to spend your time here.

Hope you enjoyed my picks of the best gay friendly holidays!  Where is the most LGBT family friendly holiday destination that you have visited? Or have you visited any of my picks? I’d love to know!
