It’s safe to say on Valentines Day last year, I was feeling anything but romantic. I had ten days before Violet’s birth, so at this point I was giant, uncomfortable and just counting down the days. Our life revolved around ‘labour watch’ – jumping at every little twinge, so Valentines Day passed us by without a second thought. This year, I wanted to make up for it and do something nice to celebrate our first year together as parents. They say that becoming parents will either make or break a relationship and it’s certainly made us. I feel our bond is closer than ever after the journey we’ve been on over the last year, so that is a big thing to celebrate. Being parents has kept us so busy we forget things like ‘date nights’ and spending time together (thats not dashing about making bottles, dinners, baths etc), so I’m hoping a special night in will be just the ticket for some quality time together.
This year, I’ve planned a night in. I looked at going out into Brighton, but by the time we’ve organised a babysitter and booked a table at a nice restaurant, it makes it one expensive evening. So staying in is the best plan for us, which I’m secretly pleased about as I hate being away from our home in the evenings anyway! Maybe we will get a meal for 2 from M&S or a takeway, but we won’t be cooking – this is all about quality time and putting the housework to the side for once!
To make this year memorable, I’ve already organised a few lovely little touches for a special meal at home, which I excitedly set up this weekend as I wanted to see how beautiful our new little setup looked on the table! Firstly, I ordered these beautiful personalised items from one of my favourite online gift stores – Ellie Ellie, who are actually local to me just down the road in Hove! I have ordered us a gorgeous personalised sideplate with our initials on each one, personalised napkins and a table runner. They look fab, especially the plates with the gold trim, giving them a luxurious feel. Something we can keep forever and use for every date night at home.
You know you are a proper grown up when you own a ‘posh’ cutlery set. We got our new dining room table earlier in 2017 so I just had to get set of cutlery to use for special occasions too. I just loved this Viners Nala Rose Gold Cutlery Set it’s just a bit different to standard silver or gold tableware. I can’t wait to finally use our precious set that has been waiting for the perfect moment to make it’s debut appearance for months now!
A romantic night in has to be a treat for all the senses, so fragrance is an important part of our evening too. The stunning Noctula candle from The Chapel will be on our table. It’s honestly the most beautiful candle I’ve ever owned and I can’t wait to light it on the night. A scent distilled “to evoke the hour between sunset and darkness” with deep and rich oudh, juicy red fruits, floral lily and zesty mandarin, it’s certainly a scent to intoxicate and inspire. This will take centre stage on our Valentines Day table this year.
Of course, no Valentines evening is complete without chocolate. As busy parents, it isn’t always easy to get out to the shops so I have found the absolute best way to get fresh, rich, chocolate brownies straight to your door, which is a lovely idea for a gift too. Yes, you heard that right – this brownie was posted to me from the Pink Pepper Kitchen in a presentation tin and it’s one of the best brownies I’ve ever tasted! You’d think by posting it, it would be a little dry by the time it arrived, but it’s packaged to keep fresh and it was just perfect and just to top it all off, it was sparkly too, so I was thoroughly won over!
The last Valentines Day essential is of course, a bouquet of Red Roses. Following on the postal theme, would you believe these gorgeous roses arrived in a letterbox sized box thought my door? They are the Lovebird bouquet from Beards and Daisies, which is 12 Naomi Scented Roses and they are just gorgeous and have filled our front room with the sweet scent of roses! Another ideal gift as you don’t need to worry if your recipient is in to receive the package, as it goes through the letterbox it’ll be laying on their doormat when they get home guaranteed!
So, thats our evening, I’m really looking forward to it – now for the exciting part! How would you like to win a Valentines Day bundle of prizes for the perfect night in too? It’s worth a whopping £200 and includes lovely products like Pinkster Gin, popcorn, Candles, a personalised mug set, photo blanket and sterling silver necklace!

This is a great bundle! I totally hear you on the parenting thing- I can’t remember the last time we did anything except exchange cards amongst the constant knackeredness that is childrearing.
I would definitely like to carve out some more ‘us-time’ this year, as it’s an area we’ve really neglected since having our son and actually, it’s really important that we start focusing on our relationship a bit more.

I’m going to drag hubby to see 50 shades
I am working all day and night! But we never wait until Valentines Day to surprise each other – I came home from work last week to a bunch of flowers waiting for me at home, a box of doughnuts and strict instructions to put my feet up! We usually treat each other a few times a year rather than only on Valentine’s Day. We have a day off together on the 16th though, so we will most likely take a trip to the cinema and have a meal together 🙂 x

A special meal in, with a movie and chocolate.
Anything to improve on last year’s V-Day,, when I was working awag, and staying at a bleak hotel in the middle of nowhere. I ordered room service, and when the waiter brought up my meal, he handed over the tray, and said rather sadly, “Happy Valentine’s Day”. I was rather disappointed that he hadn’t put a rose on the tray.
No plans just Netflix and chill as I’m single st the mo.
