Review: Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner

You may have noticed I’ve gone a little cleaning mad over on the blog just recently!  I think a house move with a baby on the way is a surefire way to get the urge to nest, big time! A task I’ve been wanting to do for a long time (but always put off!) is to clean our carpets, rugs and upholstery. Well, finally last week gave the house a good scrub and I was actually SHOCKED at the results!

As we have Robbie, I find most of our surfaces get covered in hairs and often mud if he’s managed to sneak in and jump onto the sofa before I can catch his muddy paws! This is often doubled up by a baby who likes to surf around the furniture with crumbs, food and general baby gunk on her hands. Our house was never going to be clean, no matter how hard we tried! So, I was pleased to give the new Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner a run for it’s money to see if it could tackle our doggy, crumby messy situation! Here is how we got on….

The Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner looks like quite a beast – it looks heavy and difficult to set up and operate. Trust me, it is neither. It comes fully set up from the box – all you need to do is add clean, warm water to the tank with some detergent (which is supplied in the box too), click back into place, plug in and you are ready to go. It is also not too heavy either – it has big carpet-friendly wheels to glide around the floor with ease, making carpet cleaning a really easy job.

Although the Deep Carpet Cleaner is predominantly for carpets – it’s actually a really versatile tool as it can be used on stairs, fabrics, upholstery, mattresses and car interiors, so you can give your house a scrub from top to bottom too.

With two main settings, the deep clean function starts the powerful, dual cross brushes that will clean your carpet in one go. The brushes oscillate through carpet fibres to clean, groom and polish from every angle, lifting dirt, stains. If you have tough stains or high traffic areas like hallways or doorways, there is a super boost function, which gives an extra blast to really tackle the toughest areas.

So, I filmed a little video on how we got on trying our new Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner – we tried firstly on an area of carpet. This was a communal area in our house, which hasn’t been cleaned in over THREE YEARS. Don’t judge me – as it’s not technically in our flat it had clearly been forgotten about. It is also a high traffic area, where us and our neighbours come in and out on a daily basis. The dirt that came out of this carpet just shocked me!

Secondly, we cleaned Violet’s white, fluffy rug – this looks so much better, I also loved how the grooming brush really pulled up the pile and gave the rug a fresh bounce and lease of life!

Lastly, we cleaned our sofas – this is Robbie’s favourite place to sit, so needs cleaning regularly. We used the handheld upholstery tool and visibly saw the dirt lifting through the handle, it was so satisfying. The machine even managed to lift permanent ink stains which have been there months, even though I’ve tried to remove them – many times!

Onto the video….

So, as you can see I was highly impressed with our Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner. The first thing I do when we move house will be to clean all our new carpets! In the new place we have carpet throughout so with our mucky-pup family this will be a true lifesaver. One thing I was concerned about with the product would be the drying time, we have a busy house so couldn’t really afford to have wet carpets/sofas for any length of time. We used the machine on a relatively warm and dry day and opened all the windows to let a spring breeze through the house. The carpets and sofas were dry within a couple of hours, with Violets rug taking around 24 hours as it’s a long-pile rug. The machine actually has powerful suction technology removes moisture from your carpets which noticeably reduces the drying time.

Another massive plus for me is the storage – The handle is fully collapsable so it’s not too big to store either.

Rug Doctor also do a selection of products to compliment your clean –  we especially loved using the Spot & Stain Remover, it even worked on white paint marks on the carpet. Violet also gave us cause to trial the Urine Eliminator too, which lifted any moisture and odour from her rug with ease.

I’d highly recommend the Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner  – I was honestly so surprised by the dirt it lifted from surfaces I thought were reasonably clean. Our house also smelled so fresh for days after too. You can rent products like this, but I’d recommend buying your own – you never know when you’ll need it, it’s quick and easy to whip out for any accidents, spills or stains, or if you just fancy giving your house a deep spring clean!

You can order the Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner for £299.99.

  • Have to agree. Kids and animals will never let you have a sparkly house. Just one filled with giggles and fun.
Did have a Vax carpet cleaner, but this one looks do much better. Will give it a try

  • This looks a lot easier to store than my enormous Vax – it’s a pain but it does the job, especially with a dog and a child!

  • I like what you guys are up also. Such smart work and reporting!
Carry on the excellent works guys I have incorporated you guys to my blogroll.
I think it will improve the value of my website :).

  • The Handle of mine seemed to crack from one lower “Swivel” assembly points where it connects to the body. To my horror i realised that after opening it up to replace the broken handle that the circular part where it is screwed onto the body itself has broken! Two of the screw points had snapped inside resulting in the handle cracking on that side! Uttwrly dismayed because i have to order a complete handle and lower body assembly now!
