Saying goodbye to our Snuzpod – Pearl is in her new room!

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this post, as my little baby is growing up far to quickly. This week Pearl moved to her own room! Having Pearl sleep down the hall in her brand new room and taking down our trusty Snuzpod down feels like such a big milestone. I wanted to write this post to document this moment and also as a little tribute to our beloved Snuzpod too – they truly are one of those baby products I could never have been without and I couldn’t them recommend them more – so, hopefully if you are thinking of getting one, this post might be helpful too!

So, it was last week that we moved Pearl to her new room. In true second baby style, it wasn’t quite finished and was a bit of a rush – We  had painted her nursery ‘Oyster White’ which has a gorgeous pinky pearlescent shimmer to it, bought her a new wardrobe an toy storage but other than that it’s work in progress. It still needs some prints to personalise it and a few finishing touches, but it’s a lovely room. She’s in Violet’s cotbed which looks HUGE for such a little baby.

I’d been clinging on to keeping her in our room as long as possible – maybe for two reasons, firstly, she’s not sleeping through the night and I wanted her close to us and secondly, I wondered if I would ever have another newborn sleeping by my side. It’s such a special time with memories I hold dearly from both our girls.

But, last week when I came into our bedroom to collect Pearl from her nap I found that she had climbed out of the Snuzpod and was halfway across our King size bed – heading towards the dog for a stroke – they are inseparable! I knew it was time to make the transition. I’d been holding onto having her in our room for far too long it was becoming unsafe. So, that evening with very little thought or planning we settled her to sleep in her brand new room for the very first time and nervously watched her chest rise and fall from the monitor in the other room.

Her first couple of nights were pretty unsettled, but we expected them to be. She woke quite a few times and took a while to settle, but we are a few days down the line and she’s improving a little bit every day and last night she slept all night in her bed with only a couple of feeds! (I was hoping it would cure everything and she’d sleep through, but alas – not yet). Seeing as it’s a brand new environment, I think she’s adjusted really well. It was the right thing to do. I think she loves having the room to roll about in her new bed and I think (and hope) her sleep will keep on improving over time as she settles in further.

So, it’s official – it’s time to pack up the Snuzpod for the second time. We have had a Snuzpod for both of our girls and wouldn’t have it any other way – they are brilliant. I feel in a way I have quite an emotional attachment to the little pod that held my babes for their first few months – From writing this post, before Violet even came along to now, I have some of my happiest memories, laying in bed watching my sweet newborn babies sleep next to me, their soft and sweet breath on my cheek.

For Pearl, she had the Snuzpod 3 in Dove Grey, which is a newer addition to the one Violet had. It’s a crib that attaches onto the side of your bed, allowing you to easily feed, pick up and if you are like me – stare at your new baby for HOURS on end from the comfort of your own pillow. The Snuzpod 3 is wider which was great for Pearl as she’s such a wriggler, has a lift off bassinet, which we would bring into the living room to let her sleep in the early days. With airflow, breathable mesh I felt reassured Pearl was had a safe place to sleep, but was close to me too. It really is the best of both worlds when it comes to safe but close sleeping with a newborn.

Here are a few things we’ve loved about our Snuzpod 3. It is wider than previous models which was great for Pearl as she’s such a wriggler! One of the fab new additions on the Snuzpod 3 is a Reflux incline – which was a lifesaver in those early months as Pearl really suffered, so we could prob her up and make her a bit more comfortable. The Snuzpod also rocks which is so handy, I’ve spent many a night with my hand (or foot!) out the bed rocking the cot to hopefully settle the baby and get a few extra minutes sleep.

The thing I think that sets the Snuzpod apart from other bedside cribs is that aside from being functional, they are super stylish. The sleek design blends into the bedroom without making it look like a nursery.

So, it’s time to say goodbye to our trusty Snuzpod. Will we see you again one day? Maybe – but certainly not any time soon!

  • We had our first maps in her big girl room today… Felt quite emotional too! Not quite ready to move to her room at night (6 months and waking every two hours still) but the transition has started… 😭
