GTech AirRam MK2 K9 Review and Giveaway

Anyone who knows me well will know I’m just a little bit obsessed with hoovering! In fact, I vacuum clean our house around 3-4 times a day, which sounds excessive but with two toddlers and a black hairy dog, trust me – it’s needed! Often it’s just one area where there will be a spill or mess, but the dog hairs – they get everywhere! I couldn’t wait to try out our new GTech AirRam MK2 K9 as our current vacuum cleaner is heavy, it’s got a cord and it’s really not that easy to whip out when it’s needed so I was hoping this would be the perfect solution for our busy household.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I was so shocked as to how small the box was when my GTech AirRam K9 arrived! I wondered if they’d sent the wrong model as surely there couldn’t be an entire vacuum cleaner in there! Surprisingly with some clever packing it was all there and putting it together couldn’t be easier – I followed the instructions and it took only a couple of minutes and once assembled there is no need to take it apart.

The first thing I noticed was just how small and lightweight it is – at just 3.2kg when fully assembled – it’s so easy and light to manoeuvre too. There was a little bit of charge in the battery, but I popped it on charge before slotting it onto the base ready for use.

The 22V lithium-ion battery slots into the brush head meaning you can charge it either connected or disconnected to the main base, whichever is easier for you. The 4 lights indicate the charge level so you can see how long you’ve got left at a quick glance. With an amazing 40 minute run-time it’s plenty to get around the whole house and more – I only charge mine every few days and I use it multiple times a day. It needs around 4 hours to charge fully.

Putting the filter together was super easy – the parts slot into one another and the scented cartridges are an excellent touch, especially for pet owners as I’m always conscious dog odour around the house. There are 5 extras in the box and need changing around once a month so I shouldn’t need to buy any for at least 6 months.

The GTech AirRam MK2 K9 comes with an extra filter in the box so you’ve always got one spare when the other is drying, meaning the AirRam will never be out of action whilst the filter is being cleaned.

AROUND THE HOUSE

I couldn’t wait to give my new GTech AirRam MK2 K9 a spin around the house. I find the dog hairs impossible to keep on top of so it was going to be in for a huge challenge, even though I do clean daily! I’ll admit in the time I’ve had Robbie we’ve gone through about 4-5 vacuum cleaners as they just can’t keep up with the challenge, so I’m hoping we’ve finally found our one.

Turning it on I immediately noticed the LED lights at the front, they are so handy for spotting dust and debris to ensure a thorough clean. Using it couldn’t be easier, it’s so light to lift and push. Without a cord moving between rooms is SO quick and easy plus it’s great for reaching underneath the furniture too as the handle is so slim. We have a mix of carpet, rugs (including long shagpile rugs) and hard flooring in our home, so changing between floorings would usually mean changing settings and attachments, but the GTech AirRam MK2 K9 moves between all types of flooring with ease, without the need to change anything.

My first test was on our living room rug. The dog loves to play and roll on this during the day, so it’s usually where lots of hairs gather, plus an entire day of toddler crumbs, glitter and mess too. Why we picked a white rug I’ll never know! The GTech AirRam MK2 K9 works as a powered rotating brush bar that works alongside the unique AirLOC system to pick up large debris from the surface as you push forward, it then sucks up embedded dust and pet hair on the backstroke. It has an ingenious system that clearly worked by getting deep into our rug fibres, the entire bin area was full after one clean, I couldn’t believe it!

 

My next test was on the hard tiled floor in the kitchen. The kids are ALWAYS creating a mess in this room, dropping porridge when we are making breakfast to toast crumbs and more. Pearl had knocked over the tub of Ready Brek so it was the perfect test. The GTech AirRam MK2 K9 ploughed straight through the porridge, picking it up on the first stroke with amazing results, even getting right into the gaps between the tiles (watch the video for the full test!). Such a quick cleanup that would have previously taken me a lot longer.

Lastly, I tested the vacuum out on the carpet in our bedroom. This is a neutral/beige colour so the dog hairs really stand out. The GTech AirRam MK2 K9 was able to get so deep into the carpet it actually changed the colour and left deep tracks, making the carpet look brand new or like we’d given it a deep clean!

After cleaning the house I still had plenty of charge left and emptying the bin was super easy too.

THE VERDICT

I’m absolutely over the moon with how well it works in our household. I just adore how quick and easy it is to grab with no cord and clean up a quick mess as I really struggled to lug around our old, heavy corded vacuum, especially around the kids who would constantly trip on the wire or play with it. I’m hugely impressed with the level of dust, debris and hair it picks up, after one whizz around the house it’ll be totally full, so I know it’s getting right into the carpets.

The GTech is super easy to move around the house and under the beds, around furniture and tricky areas but one thing I wish I had was the multi-tool. By just having the main brush head it’s difficult to do all around the edges, nooks and crannies as there is no additional hose – but the multi-tool is sold separately so will be an additional part I hope to buy soon.

I’d highly recommend giving it a go, especially for pet owners as it’s lived up to the challenge of coping with two messy toddlers and an extremely hairy dog!
