5 ways to brighten a room on a budget

It’s strange times at the moment, but whilst we are all confined within our homes during the Coronavirus lockdown, we might as well turn all that time into something positive. When we moved into our house, all the rooms were so dark – they were all painted a beige colour and so dingy we’ve been on a mission to brighten the whole house up, making each room bright and airy. Doing up a whole house can be costly, so today I thought I’d write a few tips for brightening a room on a budget, we’ve tried to keep our costs down but have made some big changes already – hope you find it helpful!

Paint the walls a light colour

There is no brighter colour to paint a room than white if you want a bright and airy feel, it’s also a really cheap way to decorate as large tubs of white paint can be relatively cheap. It might sound boring to paint each room white, but I’ve found it’s the perfect base for any aesthetic. You can add colour through adding furniture, ornaments, plants, paintings and rugs, so white doesn’t always have to be boring!

Plants

Plants are a great way to bring a space to life and add touches of colour too. I’m absolutely useless at keeping plants alive so I usually opt for faux plants, which can look just as realistic without needing to be cared for!  Plants also clean and purify the air (if they are real) and add a touch of positivity to any room.

Move furniture around

The easiest way to change a room is to just have a complete move-around! Rearranging all the furniture can drastically change the look of a room, give it a go and see how different the room feels!

New Flooring

Changing the flooring in a room can instantly brighten a room, especially if the flooring is a dark colour. One of the quickest and cheapest ways to change the flooring is by adding a cheap carpet in a light colour, although not too light or white or it’ll show up ALL the dust and marks. A neutral colour or light grey is perfect.

Add some sparkle

The last way you can brighten a room is to add a touch of sparkle! This doesn’t have to be too bling if that isn’t your thing, but adding silver, glass or mirror to the room will reflect the light and make the room so much brighter. A mirror above the fireplace is a great way to make the room look larger and add light.

Pillows

And, of course, don’t underestimate the power of pillows! They are doing a great job of adding a cozy and inviting touch to any room you might have. You can place them on your sofa, bed, or even a reading nook to create a comfortable space where reading can really be a priority. Vibrant colors add a playful energy to a room, while faux fur versions create a luxurious atmosphere. For a more rustic or vintage look, you may want to explore Cowhide Direct‘s collection of sheepskin pillows with natural textures and colors that can complement various design styles.

Hope this helps you to brighten your rooms on a budget!
