Now lockdown is finally over and things begin to open, it’s the perfect time to book your next dentist appointment. For me, it’s been over a year since I was able to get an appointment so it’s more important than ever. We’ve all had so much on our plate this year, dental care is often something that gets pushed to the bottom of the list or forgotten, so here is your reminder to start taking care of your teeth again to keep that smile looking pearly white! Today I wanted to share a few things you can do to look after your teeth at home, although still seeking the help of a professional is so important too – so as soon as the lockdown is over make sure to get your appointments booked in too!

Here are a few tips to brighten your smile today:

Brush regularly

The first tip seems simple but it’s so important – Brush your teeth at least twice a day. This is not only great for the health of your teeth but it also helps keep your smile bright and white. When you do brush your teeth, ensure you are brushing for a full 2 minutes. Brushing and flossing regularly helps fight cavities and remove debris and harmful bacteria in the mouth.

Visit your dentist

Visit your dentist regularly – it is recommended to get your teeth and oral health checked every 6 months by a professional like the Harley Street Smile Clinic. If you’d like to further enhance your smile, your dentist may also offer extra treatments to brighten your smile such as whitening, braces or you may even want to consider veneers for a complete smile make-over!

Reduce staining

Stay away from foods and beverages that can stain your teeth. Beverages like coffee, red wine, and tea can stain tooth enamel over time which can be tricky to remove. Make sure you properly clean your teeth as soon as possible if you do consume beverages and foods that may possibly stain the teeth.

Eat Fruits and Vegetables

A diet high in fruits and vegetables may be good for both your body and your teeth. It’s never a substitute for brushing your teeth but did you know that crunchy, raw fruits and vegetables can help rub plaque away as you chew? It’s also been said that strawberries and pineapple are two fruits that have properties to clean the teeth as well.

Clean between your teeth

This is so important to keep your teeth as healthy as possible! It’s easy to forget to floss (I’m certainly guilty of that) but try and get into the habit. If you hate flossing I find a water irrigator works just as well and is slightly less intrusive. I find this water flosser works really well!

I really hope these simple but effective tips will help!
