Undergoing fertility treatments such as IVF abroad can be an emotional and stressful experience. Feelings of negativity during this time are perfectly normal, yet they can still be difficult to overcome.

In order to keep patients positive during their fertility treatments, we like to provide them with the following four tips.

Remember To Be Kind To Yourself

Mental and physical stress is inevitable when undergoing fertility treatment. When trying to conceive, it’s easy to get caught up in negative thoughts. However, remember that any difficulty you’re having isn’t your fault. Your body isn’t to blame, and neither are you. No one is at fault; just the circumstances you find yourself in.

Therefore, your advice should be to think of yourself as a friend undergoing infertility treatments. They probably won’t hear that poor lifestyle choices contributed to their inability to conceive, or that they are just “not meant” to have children. Even if things did not work out as planned, you’d tell them that you’re there for them, that they deserve every happiness, and that you’re there for them.

Remember to be your own friend when you begin to spiral into negative self-talk.

Learn To Manage Your Stress Levels And Emotions

Fertility treatments often leave women feeling angry, stressed, helpless, anxious, and resentful, and these feelings are normal. Although it is important to treat yourself nicely, it is equally important not to suppress your feelings. There’s nothing wrong with feeling upset, sad, angry, or worried.

As you continue on this journey, however, you will be able to make a huge difference by discovering how to best cope with these complicated emotions. Trying journaling to release your feelings, or going for a run to relieve stress may be what works best for you. If you find comfort in sharing your experiences with others, you might want to consider joining a fertility support group or comparing experiences in online fertility forums.

You may benefit from enjoying nature, cooking, or reading a good book on a sunny day to free yourself of the negative emotions you’re experiencing. Then you will be able to appreciate the many positive experiences in your life. Decide on what will enhance your quality of life.

Open Up To Your Support Circle

Some women are embarrassed that they are undergoing fertility treatments, while others find it to be a deeply personal matter and are unwilling to talk about it. If this is the case, you should remember that thousands of women around the world suffer from infertility as well. Quite possibly, you know someone who is going through treatment and have no idea.

During this sensitive time, it’s important to talk about your feelings with people you trust — even if you want to maintain privacy. The more emotions you bottle up within you, the more negativity, the more stress you will feel.

You’re welcome to have a partner alongside you during your fertility treatment. A close friend or family member can, at times, find it challenging to provide you with the kind of encouragement you need. You should seek out people to listen to you, not those who try to solve your problems and give you unsolicited advice. You may seek out your mom, best friend, a therapist, or a support group.

These three tips should help you to remain optimistic on your fertility journey. Do you have other tips that could help? Please share them in the comments below.
