Who is Giorgio Armani?

Giorgio Armani is a well-known menswear designer from Italy. Armani’s empire now includes hotels and restaurants, which have helped him establish himself as one of Italy’s most powerful entrepreneurs. Armani is famous for his clean, precise, and tailored menswear lines, which have made him the most successful designer to come out of Italy.

A Brief History of Armani

Armani was born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy. He came from a modest background and lived through the Second World War while it was still raging. Armani initially wanted to study medicine but instead joined the military at the age of 20. After seeing how terrible hospitals were in Verona, Armani decided he didn’t want this for his life.

He went to war and came back to work at ‘La Rinascenta’ as a window dresser. He then became a menswear department vendor, which allowed him to see the fashion business from different perspectives. In the 1960s, Armani helped found ‘Nino Cerruti,’ where he was in charge of men’s fashion. He also worked for other fashion houses such as Bagutta, Allegri, Sicons, Montedoro, Hiltons and Tendresse in addition to Nino Cerruti.

Armani was in high demand for the next decade, and his work was highly praised by the international press. He decided to start his own line after receiving advice from his partner Sergio Galeotti. In 1975, he established ‘Giorgio Armani S.p.A.’ in Milan and presented his first collection of summer men’s and women’s ready-to-wear clothing in October 1976.

What Made Armani So Popular?

His designs used fabrics in unusual settings and combinations, and these features became his trademark. His signature was to take conventional business clothing and convert them into more unstructured and comfortable menswear styles, as well as a more masculine style for women. During the 1980s, Armani’s “power suit” for males and females became a sign of the era of global economic prosperity.

By the end of the 1990s, there were more than 2,000 Armani shops in 50 countries and his annual sales approached $2 billion. The company continues to thrive in the luxury sector with a continuous high-quality release of apparel, swimwear, accessories, cosmetics, timepieces, and much more. Armani is a globally renowned luxury brand with a long and illustrious history. With their most recent lines of apparel, Armani My Way and Emporio Armani watch, they’re constantly raising the bar for high-end goods.

In 2005, he began his ‘Haute Couture’ collection. His latest company is Armani hotels. He launched his first hotel in Dubai in 2010, followed by another in Milan the next year.
