Ticking Off Life Milestones

When push comes to shove, pretty much everyone has a variety of different life milestones that they would like to achieve at some point or another.

Depending on your particular values and aspirations, your life milestones may include things like: getting your driver’s license and owning a car, buying a house, landing a job that pays a certain amount, getting married, starting a family, starting a business, and so on.

Of course, it’s one thing to have a sense of the kind of life milestones that you want to achieve over time, and it’s another thing altogether to actually set about “ticking off” and achieving those life milestones.

If you’re finding it difficult to stay on track, or to achieve the targets you’ve set for yourself, here are a few suggestions that may prove helpful.

Work to keep your motivation and sense of positivity high

First things first: it’s likely going to be very difficult to achieve your life milestones if your default state of being over the course of day-to-day life is one of pessimism and negativity.

In order to consistently move towards your valued goals and ideals, it’s extremely helpful — if not outright imperative — to work to regularly keep your motivation and sense of positivity high.

If you find that you’re demoralised, take the time to argue with yourself internally and to “play devil’s advocate” against your self-defeating thought processes.

And if you feel as though you’re living the drive to move towards your life milestones, take some time to regularly re-energise and excite yourself about those milestones, through things like motivational talks and videos, and perhaps even things like “vision boards.”

Look for help as and when appropriate

Sometimes, having help can make all the difference in the world when it comes to successfully pursuing and achieving a given life milestone — and there are certain occasions where seeking out a bit of help may be particularly rewarding and appropriate.

Employing the services of a good wedding planner can, for example, help you to really move forward with organising and achieving your special day — and a supportive partner, relative, or close friend to help to advise you on the path to achieving your goals can likewise be extremely helpful.

Keep your eye on the prize and cultivate daily resilience and consistency

The only real way to achieve any life milestone, or any significant goal as a whole, is to “keep your eye on the prize” and to move consistently forward one step at a time, and one day at a time.

Adopting daily practices that help you to stay mindful about the bigger picture goals that you are after, in addition to keeping up a series of consistent habits to move you forward, can be invaluable.

Things like setting up a vision board that you look at daily, and using a good habit tracking tool, can help you to move forward with a much greater degree of focus and consistency.
