Getting Summer Ready

As the days get longer and the temperatures warmer, many of us are getting excited for the summer season. No British summertime is the same either, whether you prefer to jet off on a holiday abroad, relax in your back garden or embark on a staycation. In any case, all the choices available can feel overwhelming.

You want to make sure it’s full of fulfilling experiences that you’re excited, alongside plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation. But how to get the perfect balance and create a summer you’ll cherish? Here are a few basics you should definitely consider this year.

Embrace the Outdoors

With the sun shining brighter, it’s time to reconnect with nature. Perfect for hikers, rock climbers or those looking for a gentle stroll, the warm outdoors is a calming environment to spend your free time and it’s also free (most of the time!) to explore.

There are so many great hiking spots in the UK, but if you’re feeling adventurous, why not try your hand at kayaking or cycling? You can also keep it simple by taking a picnic to your local park and laying out a blanket to doze in the sunshine.

Brighten Up Your Wardrobe

There is some must-have clothing that makes a capsule wardrobe, however, summer is the perfect time to experiment with your personal style. Start by going through your clothes and donating or discarding last year’s cast offs to make room for new purchases.

Invest in light, breezy fabrics in vibrant colours and playful prints that will instantly enhance your everyday look while keep you comfortable. Maxi dresses, denim shorts and breathable blouses are all summer staples. Not to mention the accessories – hats, sunglasses, jewellery and bags! If you’re struggling, look at some magazines for outfit inspiration.

Get Active and Healthy

Prioritising health and fitness this summertime is a great way to boost your self-esteem and wellness. Take advantage of the warm temperatures by exercising outdoors. Swimming, cycling and running are all exhilarating options that are good for your mind and body. If you’re more into indoor activities, yoga, dance or Pilates are exciting options.

Eating right is a form of self-care that shouldn’t be overlooked. Staying hydrated and packing your diet full of fresh vegetables, whole grains and sustainably sourced proteins will make you feel as good inside as you do on the outside.

Plan for Downtime

The heat can make us more sleepy than usual so it’s important to factor in some downtime to your plans. Give yourself the time to chill out in your own company, whether that’s by downloading a bingo app or with a solo movie marathon. While the summer is ideal for socialising, give your social battery some space to recharge.
