Plenty of parents out there will tell you that there is no such thing as relaxation when there are kids around. However, did you know that you’re allowed to take breaks from your children if you want to? Believe it or not, parental guilt comes around where taking time to be a human being is frowned upon!
We don’t agree. Finding time to unwind and relax is so important, and you need time away from the children to be able to do that. Taking some time for yourself is essential and sometimes, that time requires you to let the kids go for a while. So, here’s how you can relax as an adult – on your own, and with yourself.
- Unwind with a vape. Are you someone who has switched to vapes from smoking? Great, use your Lost Mary vape to calm your head and feel good on the inside. If you want a fast way to unwind, vaping can do that to you and you can take this small indulgence and breathe deeply without the children. Whether you want something fruity or minty, vaping can give you a moment of respite that helps you to recalibrate. Remember, you’re a parent, but you were a human being first!
- Get yourself into a bubble bath. A long, hot soak is often a must when you need to relax without the kids. It’s not just self-care or about basic hygiene, but it’s about taking the stress out of your day and out of your bones, too. Fill the tub with warm – not too hot – water and add bubble bath or bath salts. You need to have the calm scents of essential oils, the water lapping your shoulders and the warmth of the water to help you to clear out your mind and feel rejuvenated.
- Headphones in and press play on a book. Audiobooks can really make all the difference to your stress levels. You don’t necessarily have to listen to self-help books, either. You can settle back and be read to with a book of fantasy, a thriller, or even a good old fashioned romance. You don’t have to focus on a screen, or a page. You can focus on the voices changing and reading to you, giving you a new world to sink into for a couple of hours.
- Meditate. This is virtually impossible when you have little children running around, but mindfulness can be achieved when you give yourself time to do so. Taking time to sit and empty your mind can take the load off your shoulders. Use a guided meditation app or a YouTube video to teach you to be fully present once again.
- Indulge in your skincare. When was the last time you went shopping for products for your specific skin type? It’s super hard to discover what works for you when you have to keep one eye on the children. Take the time to learn how to massage your face and neck, and let yourself use skincare to relieve your tension. You deserve a moment to just feel human again.
