CRAFTS: Daisy Square Crochet Blanket

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll have seen that I’ve been secretly working away on this little baby blanket, in preparation of our friends gorgeous baby due in May. Finally, last week little Beatrice arrived safe and sound and I was able to give her the gift I’ve been working on for the past couple of months. I love to crochet in the evenings, it’s such a relaxing thing to do after a long day. I sit on the sofa infront of some trashy TV with my crochet in hand, perfect. This pattern was relatively simple, to required little to no concentration, perfect for doing after a stressful day.

I first taught myself to crochet using Youtube Tutorials, I started with easy projects and went from there. When I’m thinking about a new project, my first place to look for inspiration is Pinterest (of course!) There are some amazing ideas on there and I spent quite some time deciding on the right pattern. The design and pattern for this one came from Tillie Tulip’s blog – her step-by-step instructions were so easy to follow. Then I had to think about colours – after much deliberation, I chose pretty girly colours, perfect for a springtime baby girl.

Ta-da! The finished product.
And here is gorgeous Beatrice – isn’t she so adorable!? Now I’m not feeling broody…. at all!! 😉

Are you working on a crafting project at the moment? Would love to hear about it!

LIFE: Wonderful Wednesdays #1

I’ve been reading the gorgeous Sally Tangle’s blog for quite some time now and every Wednesday she fills the blogosphere with loveliness with her #WonderfulWednesday posts. I always think it’s such a lovely idea, to take a few moments to think of the good things that have happened in the week and appreciate the smaller things in life. It’s so easy to get caught up in a world of stress and negativity, I know I’m guilty of that. So I’m hoping these posts will be the shake up I need to remember how wonderful things really are.
So, here’s my list of wonderful things this week…
Cooking a recipe from Pinterest and it turned out pretty damn delicious! This might seem simple to some, but cooking is not my forté. I get by, but I can barely cook an Old El Paso fajita kit without setting the smoke detector off, so I was feeling a little impressed with myself after this one! I made us Aubergine Melts with Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil, yum! Pinterest fail it was not!

♔ My little puppy dog Robbie’s face when I get home from work, as I turn the key in the lock I can see his silhouette bouncing so high behind the glass he’s almost eye level. Every day when I come through the door, he scurries off to find a present for  me, whether thats a bone, a toy or a random piece of clothing laying around – I always come home to big bounces, doggy smiles and a sweet little present.
The big moment we’ve been waiting for has arrived! We are finally exchanging on our gorgeous house by the sea, after nearly 4 long months of waiting. The next couple of weeks will be filled with packing, sorting and getting ready for our new home. I can’t wait to wake up every morning and see the sea from the window of my first house, it’s a dream come true.

Feeling Rested / My Pinterest Creation / Daisy Crochet progress

This weekend we had the most beautiful, restful weekend. Our weekends normally fly by in a flurry of social activities, cleaning and getting ready for the week. But this weekend we took some time out to sleep in, take long walks with the dog and snuggle on the sofa to watch the new Studio Ghibli film ‘The Wind Rises‘. I also got quite a bit done on my crochet daisy blanket. It was just what I needed to recharge my batteries and feel myself again.
On the topic of Japan,  I’ve been tucking into lime-green coloured Matcha Kitkats (bought at Hyper Japan a couple of months ago) and dreaming one day visiting the amazing country of Japan. I can’t wait to one day take a stroll through the cherry blossom and have tea with the geisha’s, or maybe I will get to feed the bunnies of rabbit island! However, I think with the new house on the horizon, for the time being it’ll have to be a Pinterest dream

LIFE: January Catch-up

How is it February already?! January has been a busy, slightly stressful month, but there have  been some really lovely times too. I’ve been trying my hardest to stick to my new years resolutions which were be healthy and lose weight (classic), meet and hang out with new friends and something that pushes me out of my comfort zone, and so far I’ve managed to acheive all three! As for fitness, both Vee vee and I bought Fitbits and have been challenging each other to step goals, calorie burning competitions and more! I’ll tell you its such a motivation to get up off the sofa and get moving when everyone can see how utterly lazy I’ve been on the days I haven’t done much! I’ve lost 4lbs which isn’t a huge amount, but I can already feel my clothes are a little loose, so just gotta keep it up!
As for meeting new friends and doing something that pushes me out of my comfort zone, these things kind of go hand-in-hand. Singing is one of my very favourite things to do… I did music at college and sung with a band as a teenager, but as the years went by I stopped and my confidence just dissapeared and I’ve wanted to get back into singing for so long now. So, finally (after much deliberation!) this month I pushed myself and joined a local choir.  I’ve always been on the nervous side when it comes to being in a new people and the thought of going into a room full of strangers and asked being asked to sing a scale (gulp) filled me with dread. But although I was terrified, it was all actually in my head… the people were lovely, I had so much fun singing and turns out the choir is quite social outside of rehearsal, so  I’ve already started to make some new friends too. Happy days, its amazing what a difference it makes when you put yourself out there, it really isn’t as scary as you’d think.

Here are some of my other highlights of the month:

  •  Stuffing my face at the VIP opening of the new eat-as-much-as-you-like place in the marina, Jimmys, where there is also a chocolate fountain and a dancing Chinese dragon that spat lettuce at me (I know, I was confused by that too!)
  • In the spirit of saving money for our new place, I’ve been spending lots of quality time at home, working on a new crochet daisy blanket, writing blog posts and drinking copious amounts of chai tea.  Bliss!
  • Winning a bottle of Givenchy perfume, signed by Alicia Keys. Amazing,  thank you Escentual
  • Getting away from it all with a weekend in Hayling Island, where we had long dog walks along the coast,  starlit hottubs and good times with friends.  I also spent a fortune in Gunwharf Quays (Jack Wills cardigan reduced from £129 to £29, bargain!).
  • Spending fun times with friends old and new over cocktails (numerous!).
  • Date night at Food for Friends
  • Being a total Pinterest addict, with exciting times coming up (like moving and starting to plan our wedding) Pinterest has been the perfect place to find amazing, beautiful inspiration.  I just want it all! I also made a bloggers board for everyone to share their latest post and thats fun too!
  • We had an amazing veggie burger from MeatLiqor at home with the new DineIn.co.uk service – how cool is that?!
Funny, after I said I was trying to be healthy this month, all our events seem to revolve around food! Roll on Feb!
Did you get up to anything nice this month?

Weekly Wishes #10

It’s been a while since I joined in with the Weekly Wishes link-up. Things in my life are a bit messy at the moment so I thought it would be a good time to get back into the habit and set some goals to give me some focus and motivation over the coming weeks. I also love the inspiration this link-up brings by linking up to bloggers around the world who are completing their goals for the week and reading about their journeys too, it’s so interesting to see what everyone else is focusing on. As its been a while since I joined in, I’ll start afresh today with three new goals and go from there… Here goes!
Settle back into my flat, but make it personal. After the breakup I stayed with friends and my parents for a couple of weeks, however now I have our old flat all to myself for a couple of months. It’s full to the brim of old memories, which isn’t a healthy environment for moving on so I’m going to give it a full spring clean and a big change up! I’ve already started changing things up by buying ultra-sexy Kylie Minogue Satin Bedsheets for a touch of luxury. Changing things whilst I’m still here will help me to move on and start thinking about my own personal tastes and preferences. It’s really nice to be able to have freedom and to do what I want with noone to answer to for once so I need to make the most of it!
Start a new crochet project. Along the same lines of personalising my new bedroom, this week I ordered this gorgeous bundle of wool, ready to make a blanket like the one on the right. I can’t wait for it to arrive to get started on my new colourful project.
Treat myself! My hair colour has faded and my shoes are falling apart. This week I need to put myself first and treat myself to some new things and start feeling good again. I also need to take some time out to relax and recoup after a stressful couple of weeks, as I feel I’ve been burning the candle at both ends. I think there will be a few early nights with a book to come.
Right, thats my goals for the week, good luck with your goals if you are joining in too!
